Ooooh hey everyone it's me rainpaint from fanfiction...when Cem said there was a topic about this on her board, I HAD to post...*takes deep breath* Okay, here goes.
1. I don't like the way the characters look. No offense to the people who play them, it's absolutely not their fault. And the girl who plays Amy is very pretty, just not at all how I picture her! In my mind, she looks like she does on the cover of Heartland #s 7-20 (From careful obsession *cough cough* I mean observation, that's when they started using the same girl for all of them). Jack Bartlett looks like an old cowboy, not at all how I pictured him. Since when does Lou have black hair? She has *quotes from memory* short hair the color of corn, and periwinkle blue eyes. Not black hair. And supposedly Amy looks like her father, only he has salt-and-pepper curly hair. And *music of anticipation* Ty...no offense whatsoever to the person they picked to play him, but that is NOT Ty. Somehow I could never get my mind around the fact that his hair is long enough to actually fall in his eyes...I just always pictured it as long and wavy with spikes in it so it wasn't long...does that make any sense? LOL!
2. I hate the way it describes Amy - she realized that she had her mother's gift for "horse whispering." In the books a very clear point was made that they don't "whisper to horses - we let them talk to us." *shivers because that was something Ty said* AHEM. So that makes me think they're not even going to use join-up or natural remedies in the show at all, which was a big part of the real Heartland - to show that there's a different, gentler way of dealing with horses. I've read and wrote about join-up so many times that I could probably do it myself!!! Moving on...
3. Ty Ty Ty Ty Ty...he is not in any way, shape, or form the "bad boy with a secret to hide." That makes him sound like every other hot teenage boy in your typical drama show. And that is NOT our Ty!!! Our Ty is sensitive, caring, and quiet...but not because he has something to hide!
Okay I'm done venting for now...*lets deep breath out* It's not like I'm ever going to see the show anyway...if I did I would probably watch it and yell at the TV, LOL!
It's bad enough the way the characters were changed in BtH...why couldn't Lauren Brooke just leave well-enough alone, with Ty and Amy cantering off into the sunset at the end of Always There? That book made me cry, but it was because it was so good! I cried at the end of BtH because it literally made me so upset/angry. Heh I said I was done venting...I am now, I promise!

I agree with every single thing you say! About the tv show and BtH. They are both completely wrong!! I so wish that Always There had been the last book as it was meant to be because it was an awesome ending and the ending I think pretty much all Heartland fans wanted!
The other thing I have to say abotu the tv show, is that a picture I've seen for it has the girl playing Amy riding, and she's riding western with a stetsen on instead of a safety helment!! Nothing against weson riding at all, I've tried it and would love to train in it but they ride English at Heartland unless the horse is trained western and they always wear helmets when riding. The amont of stuff that has been changed is ridiculus! The one I rant on about most is Ty. I CANNOT believe what they've done to one of my most favorite male characters in a book ever! He's so amazing and he on;y exists by name in the tv series <sob>

Oh and also, since when has Amy been blonde? And why the heck have they changed Scott and Ty's last names?!?!

I completely agree with everything you guys said. It seems like they turned the greatest series about alternative equine medicine (and some amazing characters) into a western drama with a "bad boy". AHHH I dont even know how to say this, but I sort of wish they had just not even bothered to turn it into a TV series. Why would they change so much anyway? Its perfect just the way it is (besides the whole Ty/Amy thing at the end of BtH). Anyway, I know Im going to cave and watch it anyway, but at least I can vent here first!!

Yeah i am with all three of you. I HATE how they are changing Heartland, it was such an amazing series that i have learned from. And yeah i always thought it would be cool if was turned into a TV show or movie, but i really hate what they are turning it into. What i am not looking forward to is reading something from all the people who watched the show first then read the book, and rant about how awful the books are and how much they love the show, i know it that is going to happen at some point. Arg, and yeah i do believe at some point i will cave and watch it too, and maybe it would be good if you don't think of the books at all, but i bet i will only watch a little bit of it before i throw something at the TV, or yell at it Both of which i am likely to do.

I know, even when someone had posted about there being a Heartland movie, I was like, okay, then there's just one and if it's bad, then so what. But this is a TV show...that will run with many episodes...thus more chances to mess it up. Not that I'm going to watch it anyway. I honestly can't believe Lauren Brooke would - no wait, I guess I can...*points to BtH* - do something that would mess up her characters and original story line. *sigh* People need to learn to leave well enough alone.
And has anybody else heard that the new one ("A Winter's Gift") is out already? Somebody posted on fanfiction that it was and that *sob* TY HAS A NEW GIRLFRIEND!!! HOW CAN THAT BE?!?!?!??!?!?!? Ty would never ever ever ever EVER do that. *cries some more*

Yep, I've got and read it, I was in serious shock over Ty's new girlfriend!! I couldnt' believe that one.
I'm also still in shock that Lauren Brooke would screw up such an amazing series with BtH and AWG and with this TV series. I so wish that the TV series had never been agreed to and that the series finished with Always There.
Right need to stop talking right now, gonna break something otherwise!!

Although I agree with what most of what you all said, I think the show will be good. It's not entirely a western because Amy's going to be retraining Spartan to jump, a lot of people train horses in a western saddle. And she's not horse whispering, because on the preview on youtube she says she's not a horse whisperer. With the exception of the changes, I think the show will be pretty close to the book. Now, please don't bite my head off, that's just my opinion.

Don't worry, we won't bite your head off, I respect your opinion fully. Lol, I actually respect you for looking at the positives and happily sharing them even though pretty much everyone else on here (myself included) are looking at all the changes and going 'This is really, really bad'. So good on you.
I have a tendancy to be a pretty negative person and I'm a bit of a perfectionist, I like things to be just so. So to me the changes are really big and take away a lot of what I love about the books. I don't mind the relocation to Canada, it had to be because it was a Canadian network picked it up. I can live with the names being changed (just about) and with little things llike hair colour being different (again just about). But its the big changes that bother me, like adding in the new characters who sound like they'll have a fairly big part in everything and Ty's back story being totally different that really bothers me. Maybe it makes it more interesting to people who haven't read the books, but to me it just feels very wrong. It's really quite dissapointing to know that its going to be so different to the books I love, books that have helped me through some pretty rough times.
I do also get that a fair few people train horses in Western saddles (in the US at any rate, its very uncommon here in the UK unless you're training your horse western) But in the books the only time, as far as I remeber, Amy uses a western saddle is when she's riding Boxer and it states that she has to get used to the different saddle. I think she may well also ride in one when she stays with her friend Carey but thats all. Again this is just me being a perfectionist, I want it to be the way it is in the books, the way I see it all in my head.

I just watched the show on facebook and this new Ty character could work out in the end. Because, they said that Marion hired Ty because she saw something in him, just like the books, so.....I think it can stand on it's own. The first episode came pretty close to the book. But, yeah, I also think they should have kept everything the same.

On facebook, where'd you watch it on there? And also, cool! I love facebook. lol. Little off topic - sorry!
I guess that Marion said that is a good thing, but although curiosity would get the better of me if it was on in the UK, I think I would get very sad watching it and seeing all the changes. I think I'd find it really hard to watch but just pure curiosity would probably make me watch it. I read elsewhere that Ty hits someone in it? Is that true? Cause if it is I may just cry if it is. Ty doesn't hit people, he hardly ever even loses his temper, even if he's really mad! Sigh. All the changes make me really sad. I think some of it is to do with being really sad about all the changes in the new books too, its all being changed and, in my opinion, not for the better!

There was only like half of the show on facebook, I just watched the full episode on youtube. And yes, Ty does hit someone, but he does it protecting Amy.
